Computer SPAM and Phishing
Computer SPAM and Phishing
Spam consists of the continuous sending of e-mail messages with advertising purposes. Internet criminals try to exploit it with sophisticated techniques for "phishing" sensitive data.
Phishers 'fish' the net to obtain confidential and sensitive information through bogus emails. They attempt to steal passwords or credit card information from unsuspecting users or spread a computer virus.
A phishing attack begins with sending an email that contains an enticing offer or requires a solicited action such as filling out a deceptive form, clicking on a link that leads to a bogus site, or opening an infected attachment.
This is a fraud attempt put into practice through fictitious emails or sites to steal confidential and sensitive information such as passwords or banking credentials.
How to recognize phishing
- Check e-mail address carefully for suspicious e-mails
- Be wary of emails with generic wording
- Be wary of emails urging immediate action
- Never respond to emails with requests for passwords, pins, document numbers, and sensitive data
- Check the links, scroll over them with your mouse so that the actual URL appears
- Be wary of emails with grammatical or spelling errors
- Open only email attachments from known or trusted addresses. Attachments from friends or family members may also contain malware-their accounts could be hacked or infected.
Hackers are discovering new ways to attack our computers every day; we talked about it here where Russian actors circumvented the 2FA.
